Kane’s Magnificent Hattrick Leads Bayern to Dominant 8-0 Win Against Darmstadt

Three red cards and eight goals. It certainly was a chaotic afternoon at the Allianz Arena as Bayern Munich smashed promoted Darmstadt 8-0 and once again, Harry Kane stood out. The England captain scored a hattrick (51’, 69’ and 88’), including a stunning goal from the halfway line. The other five Bayern goals were scored by Leroy Sané (56’ and 64’), Jamal Musiala (60’ and 76’) and Thomas Müller (71’).

All three goals were scored in the second half. The first half was dominated by three red cards. First, Joshua Kimmich, who will now miss the Klassiker against Dortmund, was sent off in the fourth minute for preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity. Darmstadt didn’t have a man advantage for long, however, as first Klaus Gjasula was sent off for bringing down Konrad Laimer on the way to the goal in the 21st minute, and then just before halftime, Matej Maglica (41’) for preventing Kane from scoring.

“Crazy first half against a very good opponent,” Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel said after the game. “We were down to 10 men very early on. We had problems in transition, then all of a sudden, we were ten versus ten, then more players on the pitch, we had difficulties adapting to that. The halftime break did us good to regroup and find responses. We had many chances and scored a lot of goals in the second half. Overall, we deserved the win, and we’ll keep going.”

Tuchel’s analysis was spot on. Darmstadt went from a man up to a man down, then helped open the floodgates in the second half. Kane scored within six minutes, and Bayern never looked back. The eight goals mean that Bayern is the first team in Bundesliga history to score 34 goals after the first 9 matchdays. It was also the first time in history that the Rekordmeister scored eight goals in the second half of a Bundesliga match.

As for Kane, the English captain becomes the first player to score ten or more goals and provide five or more assists in any of Europe’s top five leagues. It was also Kane’s second hattrick this season, and with 12 goals in nine Bundesliga games, the Englishman is now only second to the currently injured Serhou Guirassy (14 goals).

Not surprisingly, Kane was then spotted in the mixed zone carrying the matchball. “Well, I have to find a home first,” Kane said to the media when asked whether he would find a nice place for the match ball at home. “But it will get a nice place in the hotel.” Indeed, while Kane is still on the lookout for a new house, he already very much looks at home in this Bayern squad.

The likes of Musiala and Sané, who both scored a brace as well, have seemingly benefitted from Kane’s arrival. In fact, Kane was quick to praise his teammates for their performances after the game. “Thanks go to my teammates who created many chances for me,” Kane said after the game.

Although Kimmich’s dismissal and problems in defense will still provide Tuchel with plenty of headaches ahead of the DFB Pokal and the Klassiker next week in Dortmund, there is no doubt that Bayern’s attack has become a well-oiled machine since Kane’s arrival.

The Englishman, in fact, has quickly justified his $100 million plus price tag since arriving at the Säbener Straße. After all, Kane doesn’t just score in the Bundesliga but has also provided two goals and two assists in three Champions League games. Indeed, his 14 goals and seven assists across all competitions highlight why Kane is considered one of the greatest no.9s in European football.

With all that in mind, it is not surprising then that Kane, despite being 30, has recently joined Transfermarkt’s €100 million club. According to Transfermarkt, Kane is now only one of 15 players with a market value of €100 million ($110 million) or more, and for Bayern Munich, he is worth every single penny already.
